John Henry Hastaday, 73, former employe of the Newark Stove Co., died at 11 p.m. Sunday in his home, 92 South 3rd Street, after a long illness. He was a former packer in the parcel post department at the stove foundry and retired in 1943 on account of ill health. A native of Crawfordsville, Ind., born Sept. 6, 1875, he was the son of John L. and Margaret (Cronin) Hastaday. His widow, the former Leona McDonough, whom he married in 1922, survives; also four sisters and one brother: Mrs. Minnie Cole of Newark, Mrs. Rebecca Roundtree (sic) of Rochester, Pa., Mrs. Margaret Siffren of Massillon, Mrs. Nelle Holland of Crawfordsville, Ind., and William Hastaday of Denver, Colo. Two sisters and one brother are deceased. Mr. Hastaday was a member of St. Francis de Sales Church and the Foundry Employes union. The body is at the C. T. Egan & Son funeral home and services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with a requiem mass in St. Francis de Sales Church. Burial will be made in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
